Case Study
Birmingham Residence
Completed: 2016
Location: Birmingham, MI
Project Type: Residential
The client approached us looking for a contemporary design that provided privacy and maximized the useable space of their compact Birmingham back yard. We created a design that includes three distinct outdoor living spaces while maintaining cohesion throughout the backyard and the home. The fire table acts as a central gathering point, and the large water feature along the back property line provides the family with a heightened degree of privacy.
Highlights Include:
- Mexican beach pebbles help define the spaces, while warm natural quartzite stone and exposed aggregate complement the interior of the home
- Green arborvitae wall, ornamental grasses, and groundcover soften the strong stone presence and help weave the third living space into its surroundings
- Fire table made of quartzite split face stone with a natural cleft top
- Third living space featuring lush synthetic turf and casual lounge seating
- Travertina pavers define the dining space and help link the backyard with the pathway
